Whether you’re a new recruit or a veteran commander, there’s never been a better time to play World of Tanks on consoles!

Welcome to the Mercenary Nation

Welcome to a world where World War II never ended. With society fractured and its people left tired and hopeless, soldiers are now fighting for themselves, taking on contracts to become soldiers of fortune. These Mercenaries collect parts from captured and abandoned vehicles on the battlefield to create entirely new ones. Bringing together the strengths of some of history’s most powerful war machines, the new Mercenary ‘nation’ and Tech Tree is born, bringing the total number of in-game nations to 10.

A New Way to Earn Powerful Mercenary Vehicles

Players will be given the opportunity to earn incredible, never-before-seen Mercenary vehicles for free through the brand-new Contract system. Fulfilling certain in-game objectives, such as destroying a number of tanks from a specific nation in Multiplayer battles, can unlock vehicles from this fascinating new armada.

Each contract consists of up to eight stages, with each stage having up to three tasks to complete. Each stage will have its own reward once completed, and once a player completes a full contract, they will be rewarded with the Mercenary vehicle, a Garage Slot, and a unique Crew Commander equipped with skills to help in battle. To take on a contract, navigate to the Mercenary Tech Tree in the ‘Tanks’ tab, highlight the tank, and press the button to view Contract details. This will open the ‘Contract’ tab, where the status of available contracts can be viewed and tracked.

New Vehicles and Hero Crews

Each vehicle is helmed by a unique Mercenary crew, with their own story and their own playstyle. Want to unleash a hellish storm on your enemies with a Japanese freedom fighter? Storm Hunter is your woman – she rides to battle in the furious heavy tank, Needle. How about pestering enemies with an erratic and aggressive barrage of shells? Crazy Snake is your guy – get him with the mighty light tank, Stubbs! Five vehicles are available at launch, and the Mercenary nation will continue to expand its ranks in the weeks to come.

  • Stubbs – Tier V Light Tank
    • Reckless and free, this tank can slip through even the harshest of terrains like a snake, and strikes with the same rapid intensity.
    • Crew: Crazy Snake
      • Muffled Shot
      • Offroad Driving
    • Combat Role: Scout

  • Bigtop – Tier VII Medium Tank

    • Crew: Lost Renegade
      • Deadeye
      • Armorer
    • Combat Role: Cavalry

  • Needle – Tier IV Heavy Tank

    • Crew: Storm Hunter
      • Deadeye
    • Combat Role: Defender

  • Slapjack – Tier VII Heavy Tank
    • Despite its lower profile, Slapjack can deliver hits with a speed and intensity that enemies may find surprising.
    • Crew: Fallen Knight
      • Pain Tolerance
      • Repairs
    • Combat Role: Defender

  • Plaguebringer – Tier VI Tank Destroyer
    • As silent and deadly as its namesake, Plaguebringer excels in silence, darkness and cover, and rarely fails to find its mark.

      • Situational Awareness
      • Snapshot
    • Combat Role: Deadeye

Mercenary Maps

The Mercenaries universe has a far-reaching impact across the entire game. An array of fan-favorite multiplayer battle maps have received total revamps to fit in with the new world. You can explore, fight through, and discover the strategic intricacies of battlegrounds ravaged by war and time in eight new Mercenary-themed maps.

The environments of each of the new Mercenaries maps will follow these general themes:

  • Resource War
    • Money is the sinews of war.  Basic resources like energy and raw materials, food, water and even labor are in short supply.  Economic growth is not just desirable, it is essential to survival.  Capturing resources, natural, agricultural and industrial are tantamount to survival in the Mercenaries world.  Resources of all kinds figure heavily in Mercenaries Maps.  Not all resources are war-torn, and often the most productive areas are those who somehow miraculously avoided the scars of war. Maps will contain resources like farmland, water, power plants, mines, factories, cities, etc.

  • Walled Cities
    • Civilization hasn't disappeared, it has just contracted.  Deterioration of national governments has pushed the responsibility for law and order downwards.  Cities are the centers of wealth, power and stability in the Mercenaries world, and these cities are often surrounded by those interested in taking what they don't have.  Many cities have resorted to a medieval solution; building walls.  They are not particularly effective but provide citizens a sense of security, and provide a rallying point for defending the city.  In rare cases, the walls are not to keep people out, but to keep people in, particularly when things have gone awry, usually caused by natural disasters and plagues.  Maps may include fighting within a city wall, at the gates of a city wall or fighting to contain what was contained by a wall.  Maps can also be themed on the areas between the walled cities, namely badlands, uncontrolled spaces or pre-war cities abandoned because of the anarchy and chaos of the Mercenaries world.

  • Base Raiding Staging Areas
    • Militaries are not the massive organizations they were during the world wars.  New military units are small, nimble and reactive.  They are also resource and technology dependent.  Without the vast logistical networks of the armies of old, military units in the Mercenaries world are tied to their forward bases for logistical and material support.  This ironically also makes them prime targets in warfare.  Bases are also the solution to guarding important military, strategic or civilian assets.

The following new maps have been introduced with Update 4.5:

  • Rogue’s Harbor
    • Located in the Pacific Northwest of the United States, the military facilities at Lakewood are used as a staging point for military operations along the west coast.  This base, along with its nearby airfield, has ready access to rail and shipping, making it a critical logistics hub.
