Missile Technology Comes to the Cold War!
Get the basics on the new type of ammunition coming to Cold War game mode!
The next major update to the game arrives on June 29th. With it comes a new feature straight from the history of Cold War battle technology: the ability for certain Cold War vehicles to mount missile ammunition!
Missiles are laser-targeted, limited-use ammo that require your steady hand and expert guidance, Commander. Take a look at the Q&A below to get the essential info you need about this explosive new way to wage battle!
How do missiles work?
Missiles are an exciting new type of ammo that vehicles can fire and that can be guided to their target! Unlike shells, Anti-Tank Guided Missiles (ATGM) sacrifice travel speed for the ability to be guided towards the attacker’s target with no loss of penetration. In addition, their damage is higher, their number is limited, and they usually take longer to ready and reload.
How many missiles can I equip on one tank?
Missiles will be limited to a certain amount for each vehicle individually. Vehicles will not be able to fill their ammo capacity with only missiles.
How much damage do missiles do?
Missile damage can vary based on which missile is used, but generally missile damage will be higher than shell damage on the same vehicle.
Can I buy missiles with Silver?
Yes, all missiles can be bought and equipped with Silver.
How do missiles perform around smoke?
Smoke will act as a “blocker” for the targeting laser of missiles, but they will not stop the missile completely. Missiles can travel through the smoke and if they come in contact with an enemy, they will behave normally.
Do missiles go in a straight line, or can I guide them?
Missiles are guided by laser, which you steer with your reticle.
Will there be regular and premium missiles?
Will missiles be in World War II? Which nations/eras can use missiles?
Missiles appear only in the Escalation and Détente eras in Cold War mode for all affiliations.
What’s the difference between a missile and other types of ammo?
Missiles can be guided to locations within a vehicle’s line of sight.
Why is it that some tanks get missiles and some don’t?
Missiles are primarily assigned to vehicles based on historical usage. While some vehicles may have missiles based on potential loadouts not seen in history, we do not add missiles to tanks that have no missile-launching capabilities.
Will there be a limit on tanks with missiles during matchmaking?
Which tanks will be able to use missiles?
To start, four Tech Tree tanks will be able to use missiles:
- T-72AV Escalation Era Eastern Alliance Heavy Tank
- T-72B Détente Era Eastern Alliance Heavy Tank
- T-72B obr. 1989g Détente Era Eastern Alliance Heavy Tank
- T-72BU Détente Era Eastern Alliance Heavy Tank
These vehicles will have new guns to research that offer missiles as a third ammo option.
