How to Play – Lakeville Map: Complete Guide

We decided to remind tankers of Lakeville's features and suggest the best strategies in this guide prepared by Wizard, our community manager.

Lakeville is one of the most exemplary corridor-type maps in the game. There are only three distinct directions. The modest size and geography do not allow for anything else – a third of the map is occupied by an irresistible lake and an inaccessible mountain range.

  • World War II: Available to Tier III-X
  • Size: 800 x 800 m
  • Environment: Summer

Tankers have to be content with the remaining territory: the gulch, Lake Ridge, and the urban area.

The Gulch

This is a narrow swampy area in the western part of the map that is well exposed to artillery and tank destroyers. It’s designed exclusively for heavy tanks with excellent gun depression, as well as for medium tanks with a very sturdy turret and excellent gun depression. If your vehicle does not meet these requirements, forget about this area!

Lake Ridge

Lake Ridge refers to the narrow road that connects the two bases and runs between the mountain range and the lake. On one hand, this is an extremely important area as it allows you to spot the enemy base, the entrances to the city, and the largest part of the map.

On the other hand, the probability of surviving in this area is almost zero. If you are spotted, it will be difficult to hide, so only an experienced light tanker in a vehicle with excellent concealment should enter this area.

As a rule, vehicles approach the middle part of the ridge, and then act according to the situation:

  1. Return to the base and go to help their allies in the city.
  2. Move EXTREMELY cautiously to the opposite base spotting all enemy vehicles that did not manage to hide in the city. This is possible if an enemy light tank does not reach this area.

City/Urban Area

The city is the most important game zone where the main battle takes place. As a rule, the team that conquers the city wins the battle. That is why almost all heavy and medium tanks should go here at the very beginning of the battle.

Battles are fought according to the typical rules of urban battles: after shooting players, take cover behind buildings, drive to the flank, bounce in a rhombus, and enjoy other delights of city maps. Basically, tank destroyers and light tanks have nothing to do in this location. Only medium and heavy tanks sort things out here.

Lakeville Battle Areas

Below we would like to share some gameplay tips for each vehicle class on the Lakeville map.

Note: The dark arrows on the maps below indicate the priority directions, while the light arrows mark the non-priority ones.

Light Tanks

If there is more than one light tank in the team, they should go in two directions:

  1. Down Lake Ridge toward the enemy base.
  2. Along the lake toward the bushes (if from the top base) or buildings (if from the bottom base). Spot all vehicles that go to the city. At the beginning of the game, allied tank destroyers can cause considerable damage to enemy vehicles.

After the main forces converge in the city, light tanks can cruise along the 7th vertical line (there are 10 of them on the minimap, from 1 to 10). Drive periodically behind enemy lines to create additional difficulties for your opponents.

You can also try to break through to the enemy base to destroy tank destroyers and SPGs. But keep in mind that such actions can result in a quick exit to the garage, so we don’t recommend doing this if you are unsure of your success!

Heavy and Medium Tanks

The behavior of heavy and medium tanks on this map is similar.

The most armored vehicles with excellent gun depression angles (at least -9, or better -10) can go to the gulch and play there.

The rest of the vehicles should go to the city along the route indicated in the image below and face the enemy vehicles there. No need to rush, as the most accurate and patient usually wins. Not the fastest!

Tank Destroyers

Tank destroyers have two missions on this map:

  • The first is to control the gulch. This area is perfect for dealing damage – all vehicles are visible at a glance and you just have to stay focused.
  • The second is to help your allies shoot at heavy and medium tanks in the city while staying close to your base (either from the bushes or at the very beginning of the ridge under the protection of the gulch).

In most battles, this map is a real shooting range for tank destroyers!

Artillery (SPG)

At the beginning of the battle, select the zone you want to control:

  • Gulch and city – head west
  • City and Lake Ridge – head east

We can’t say that this map is easy for SPGs. If you choose the eastern direction, an enemy light tank can spot you quite quickly. And in the gulch, heavy tanks can keep hiding behind the stones for a long time, thus depriving you of damage.

On the Lakeville map, SPGs should play carefully. Keep an eye on what is happening on the minimap. Unlike the El Halluf map, you will not be able to relax here!

Here are some other general tips from our community members:

  • (BLUE) Heavy tanks / Heavily armored medium tanks
    • These vehicles should aim for the city (remember to drive next to the map border), as there is a lot of space for both types of vehicles. If you are brave enough, you can go to the gulch with a hull-down heavy, but be careful as you might meet some really strong tanks there.
  • (RED) Well-armored heavies and tank destroyers
    • Well-armored heavies and tank destroyers should head toward lines 1-2. Expect to face vehicles similar to yours in that area. Additionally, there is not enough space for mediums to go around and destroy you from the back.
  • (WHITE) Light tanks
    • These locations allow light tanks to spot into the city and give your team solid information about the opponent.
  • (YELLOW) Lightly armored tank destroyers and medium tanks
    • Lightly armored tank destroyers and medium tanks can shoot into the city to support and provide cover for their team’s light tanks.
  • (GREEN) Artillery
    • Relocate to one of the marks on the minimap. This will allow you to be active throughout the whole battle.
GENERAL TIP: Stay on your toes while on this map. It’s easy for you to lose in Lakeville due to the loss of your base. Always go back to defend the base if needed.

To sum it up, the map is balanced for both bases and for all vehicle types. But, as a rule, the outcome of a battle depends on who wins in the city, so the main responsibility lies with medium and heavy tanks.
