Tanks Reforged and On-Track: Sturmtiger

A new round of balance changes arrives for these German tank destroyers (and a few other vehicles!). Get all the info below!

Tanks Reforged is the initiative that overhauls vehicles from World War II mode and brings them in line with today’s battle standards.

In this edition, the team takes a look at the tank destroyers in the Sturmtiger line. These vehicles received a few changes in the February 15th game update, but we want to see them fully live up to the potential of their massive alpha damage.

Take a look at the rebalancing details below to start. Then continue reading to see how to make the Tech Tree vehicles yours with On-Track.

TECH TREE VEHICLES

German Tier X Sturmtiger Tank Destroyer

We’ve improved the armor to be more in line with the armor on other assault-style tank destroyers. Being able to survive longer should help improve the other performance areas. The increased reverse speed will help you move back into cover just a bit faster, which also goes a long way in improving survivability.

Details:

  • Armor
    • Frontal turret structure: 190mm -> 230mm
  • Reverse speed: 12 -> 14

German Tier IX Bär Tank Destroyer

While the gun depression and yaw limits on this vehicle are already at the limits that the model will allow, we hope to mitigate these limitations with the following improvements to help the vehicle perform more effectively.

The first improvement is for the frontal armor. This will allow it to work better as an assault TD and help improve its ability to survive as you try to get into a position that will allow you to aim at your enemies.

Next, due to the narrow gun arc, you constantly have to rotate your hull to aim your gun. This causes your reticle to keep blooming and forces you to wait for it to shrink. By then, the enemy could have moved, requiring you to move your hull again or head back into cover. To help mitigate the impacts of the restricted yaw limits, we’ve greatly reduced the hull rotation penalty on dispersion so that you aren’t being double penalized for having to constantly move your hull and gun to aim. This will greatly increase your ability to aim and engage targets.

Details:

  • Armor
    • Frontal turret structure: 210mm -> 230mm
    • Hull armor: 130mm -> 170mm
  • Forward speed: 30 -> 35
  • Chassis 1
    • Dispersion during rotation: 0.16 -> 0.03
  • Chassis 2
    • Dispersion during rotation: 0.14 -> 0.03

German Tier VIII Sturmtiger (P) Tank Destroyer

This vehicle also has narrow yaw limits, so similar to what we’ve done with the Bär, we’ve adjusted the dispersion penalties and improved the reverse speed as well as added additional hull armor.

Details:

  • Reverse speed: 12 -> 14
  • Chassis 1:
    • Dispersion during movement: 0.21 -> 0.18
    • Dispersion during rotation: 0.21 -> 0.05
  • Chassis 2:
    • Dispersion during movement: 0.19 -> 0.16
    • Dispersion during rotation: 0.19 -> 0.05
  • Armor
    • Hull corners and side of main structure: 80 mm ->110 mm
    • Frontal superstructure: 200 mm ->215 mm
    • Upper hull areas: 200 mm -> 215 mm

German Tier V StuIG 33 B Tank Destroyer

We’ve improved its view range to compensate for its lower concealment and improved the 15cm gun to be more competitive at this tier.

Details:

  • View range: 310 -> 330
  • 15 cm s.I.G. 33 L/11
    • Invisibility at shot: 0.171 -> 0.209
    • Reload: 10.3 -> 9

German Tier VII Sturer Emil Tank Destroyer

During the Friday stream, a player asked if the Sturer Emil could receive more ammo. While normally players only use about seven rounds a match, we don’t see any harm in increasing the ammo count. This will give players more room to carry different round types in their loadout.

Details:

  • 12,8 cm Kanone 40
    • Ammo count: 15 -> 23

PREMIUM VEHICLES

American Tier IX Fangula™ AE Phase 1 Heavy Tank

and

American Tier IX AE Phase 1 Heavy Tank

We’ve made improvements to chassis dispersion values and improved the gun handling and reload. Overall, this will allow these vehicles to defend themselves a bit better and be more competitive with other 400-alpha heavies.

Details:

  • Chassis
    • Shot dispersion during movement: 0.2 -> 0.16
    • Shot dispersion during rotation: 0.2 -> 0.16
  • Turret
    • Rotation speed: 26 -> 30
    • 120 mm Gun M58A
      • Reload time: 13.5 -> 11
      • Aim time: 2.7 -> 2.5

French Tier VII AMX Chaffee Light Tank

We’ve increased its health as a buff that players have requested for a long time. This will help it survive a little better.

Details:

  • Health: 600 -> 800

American Tier VIII T26E4 Freedom Medium Tank

and

American Tier VIII T26E4 SuperPershing Medium Tank

During the Friday stream, players asked if we could improve the power-to-weight ratio on these vehicles. Taking a look, we saw that we have room to do this. It will still feel like heavy-tank mobility due to the armor (and Preferential Matchmaking), but this will give these tanks a little extra power to get across the battlefield and get into the action sooner.

Details:

  • Engine power: 500 -> 580
    • Power/weight: 10 hp/t -> 11.6 hp/t
