The team has updated the guns on several Soviet heavies, with penetration being the focus. Learn more below!
Tanks Reforged is the initiative that overhauls vehicles from World War II mode and brings them in line with today’s battle standards.
For this edition, instead of focusing on vehicles, the team focused on guns—specifically on the 122mm guns mounted on several Soviet heavy tanks. These weapons needed a refresh to provide a more satisfying progression through the tiers, so that’s what they got! Read to the end for important information on compensation for updated guns and mounted ammo.
Note: Most of the related Premium tanks were already rebalanced in the Reforged Legends update, so you’ll see only one small set of changes to Premium vehicles this time.
Because the Object 277 line contains a number of tanks with these updated weapons, this line will be the focus of this week’s On-Track.
Take a look at the rebalancing details below to start. Then, read on to learn how On-Track makes it easy to make several of the rebalanced Tech Tree tanks yours!
Soviet Heavy Tank Penetration Update
Up to this point, the various 122mm guns had the same 175mm of penetration from Tier VI all the way through Tier IX, causing static gun progression and a lack of effectiveness as players moved up the line.
To address this, we’ve rebalanced the penetration values for these 122mm guns so that, as you progress to higher tiers, the penetration ability increases accordingly, allowing you to stay competitive against your opponents.
Along with this change, we’ve adjusted which guns are available for the tanks at each tier so that each gun is a meaningful upgrade for the vehicle; we’ve also removed duplicate guns. These changes will streamline the grind, start vehicles with a more capable gun, and be more enjoyable to play as you work toward getting the next tank in line.
For the Tier VII tanks with two 122mm guns, the first 122mm gun has been buffed to match the performance of the removed 122mm gun. This gives you the same upgraded performance sooner without needing to grind out an identical gun for a better reload.
In general, the 122mm gun penetration changes on the affected vehicles will look like this:
Soviet Tier VI KV-85 Heavy Tank
The stock 85mm gun received higher penetration to improve the grind and more closely match the gun progression.

We replaced the stock gun with a new 85mm so that it starts with 160mm of penetration.

Soviet Tier VII KV-13 Medium Tank
The 85mm D-5T received improved penetration. The tank also got a new top gun with 160mm of penetration.

Soviet Tier VII KV-3 Heavy Tank
In a previous Tanks Reforged, the 85mm F-30 gun remained for historical reasons. However, the performance was just too poor, so it has been removed.
