Tanks Reforged and On-Track return to put you in command of updated tanks from the AMX M4 mle. 54 line!
Tanks Reforged is the initiative that overhauls vehicles from World War II mode and brings them in line with today’s battle standards.
For this first installment of 2022, we’re taking a new look at French heavy tanks from the AMX M4 mle. 54 line and their related Premium tanks. How are we updating these powerhouse vehicles to make them the bastions of battle you need to stand up to the enemy’s offense?

Let’s start with the BDR G1 B. This tank lacked any sort of armor you’d expect for a heavy tank. Combined with its very large cupola, this detail meant that it just wasn’t able to fulfill its role effectively.
To address this, we’ve improved the overall frontal armor protection to provide more reliable armor and force the enemy to aim more at your weak hull spots to penetrate your vehicle more effectively. We’ve also reduced the dispersion penalties for moving so that you can get your aim fixed on your target a bit more quickly after moving out from cover. Both changes should improve your overall performance on the battlefield.
Next up is the ARL 44. Although it has decent hull armor, it lacked any sense of turret armor. This made it very difficult to do well in this tank, as you need to expose your turret to engage the enemies.
To address this, we’ve increased the turret armor so that its effectiveness is similar to the hull armor’s. These changes, along with the improvements to the guns and decrease in dispersion penalties, should bring its performance up to the level that is expected for a more enjoyable and effective experience.
Coming in at Tier VII, the AMX M4 mle. 45 shares the same lack of armor as its predecessors. In this case, it was even less armored than the tank at the previous tier, so we’ve substantially improved its armor. This change should address its lackluster performance in battle by allowing it to be more competitive and play more like a heavy tank from this tier.
To help separate the AMX 65 T from the medium tank branch and move it more into the heavy tank role, the weak hull armor has been improved to be comparable to other pike-nosed heavy tanks from this tier. Along with the view range and aim time improvements, the 120mm gun received improved penetration.
All of these changes should make this tank a more formidable opponent on the battlefield.
At Tier IX, the French tanks in this line start to become more armored and feel more like heavy tanks. However, there are still some armor improvements to make. In this case, the main focus was to improve the side armor and hull corner panel so you can angle your tank and side scrape more effectively. Both the 120mm and 127mm guns received a reload improvement with the 127mm also receiving an increase in penetration to be more effective.
As was the case with our Tier IX tank, the focus was to improve the side armor and hull corner panels to improve your effective armor. Both the 120mm and 130mm guns also received an improved reload speed, with the 130mm gun receiving additional penetration to be more effective.
Similar to the Tech Tree vehicles, these vehicles have received some armor and gun improvements to bring them in line and allow them to remain competitive on the battlefield.
These Premiums have excellent gun stats, great maneuverability, and Preferential Matchmaking, but they really suffer in the ability to survive. To address this, their armor has been improved to help block some additional damage, but it’s not as reliable as the armor on a more dedicated heavy tank. After all, this vehicle shares more similarities with the medium tank class.
Similar to the Tech Tree version’s updates, the 130mm gun receives the same penetration improvements along with a better reload time to slightly improve its damage output.
